There’s No Place Like Home

So that’s the end of my SF mini vacay! From downtown to China Town, my weekend was packed full of adventure and memories. Now it’s back to LA for me- San Francisco was fun, but I’m thankful to return home to the warm winter weather and beaches of SoCal.

Chyna in China Town

Most of you know me as just Ciera, but one fun fact about myself is the vast amount of nicknames I have been given over the years. About two and a half years ago some friends from my Australian People to People trip gave me the nickname of Chyna (spelled with a Y instead of an I to make it more interesting.) Many people don’t believe that I am half Chinese, so it was kind of a fun joke that turned into my new identity throughout the trip. I am not very close with my dad’s side of the family as I don’t speak Cantonese so there is a bit of a communication gap, but I am open and excited about any opportunities where I can learn a little bit about my culture.

China Town is such an interesting piece of San Francisco’s culture. As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, my dad grew up there as a child and still has family living there today. On the last day of our trip we got to visit my great aunt, uncle, and cousins at dim sum then afterwards explored the hustle and bustle of China Town.

Down one of the crowded streets people gathered to watch the Chinese New Year dragon parade. There were several colorful dragons dancing and performing to traditional Chinese music. At the end, firecrackers were lit to ward off the evil spirits and welcome new businesses good fortune in the new year.

And lastly, my OOTD! I opted for a more casual and comfortable look because I only brought a small carry-on bag packed with mostly basics, and later on I was going back to the airport.

Cako Cupcakes

During my SF trip I stumbled upon a cute little cupcakery called Cako.  They had a special promotion for downloading their app- free cupcakes!  I tried out the strawberry cheesecake and salted caramel cupcakes- the frosting was creamy and sweet and the flavors were delicious.  I also really liked the clear packaging and thought the pink sticker was a nice touch.  The y have six locations in San Francisco and San Jose, so if you can definitely check them out! 🙂

Eye of the Tiger

Here’s a few snaps of the outfit I wore the day of The Summer Set concert in San Francisco. While visiting the nearby park by our hotel, I made a new furry friend named Javi.

San Fran Adventures

On the first day of my arrival I spent most of the time catching up on my sleep and relaxing at the W. Later on my sister and I got dinner and caught the premiere of Endless Love at the AMC theater nearby.

DSC_0498 DSC_0539 DSC_0541 The second day we did a bit of sightseeing, starting with a park by our hotel filled with beautiful fountains, trees, and lots of interesting people.

Next up we visited the Golden Gate Bridge from the nearby shore Crissy Field. There was also another park across the street (unfortunately I didn’t catch the name) with a big pond and central dome that we went to explore afterwards.

That night we went to the Bottom of the Hill to watch an intimate acoustic performance by The Summer Set. Afterwards, we were pretty hungry and grabbed dessert at the Ghirardelli Factory. The hot fudge brownie sundae was a real treat!

My Weekend Getaway

My Valentine’s/President’s day weekend was spent in one of the most interesting cities in California- San Francisco. My dad used to live in the city when he was younger so I love being able to go back and explore where he spent his time growing up.

When we first arrived it was cold and cloudy- around 50°F, to be exact.

We stayed at the W Hotel, which had the coolest mix of a modern and oriental theme. It had a bar and lounge downstairs, filled with lots of orchids and flowers and mirrors.

I got to do a few exciting things while on my little mini-vacation, including going to a concert, eating at the Ghirardelli Factory, trying out new cupcakes, visiting some of my Chinese relatives, and of course a little sightseeing. I’ll be posting more about it over the next few days so stay tuned!
